Is your data ready for the Forecast Template?

Check whether your monthly data and forecasting needs fit the template. There are six checks, plus a question about optional subscriber records. Your result explains what is ready and what needs attention.

Monthly history How much complete monthly history do you have?

Count full months with both subscriber totals and subscription revenue that you can compare consistently. Do not include a partial month.

Monthly inputs Can you put together these monthly figures?

You'll need these columns, organized by month and plan:

  • Month
  • Plan
  • Beginning Subscribers
  • New Subscribers
  • Cancellations
  • Ending Subscribers
  • Subscription Revenue
Consistent definitions Are plan names and subscriber counts defined consistently?

Check that beginning, new, canceled, and ending subscribers mean the same thing throughout your history. If a name or definition changed, you need a consistent way to align the older records.

Subscriber totals Do your subscriber totals add up?

For each month and plan, check that:

Beginning Subscribers + New Subscribers − Cancellations = Ending Subscribers

Revenue calculation Can you provide revenue history using the template's monthly calculation?

The template counts revenue from subscribers active at month end. It does not prorate partial months: a subscriber who cancels during the month contributes no modeled revenue for that month.

This can differ from invoices, cash received, or accounting revenue.

Template fit Does your forecast need any of these features?

Consider the subscribers and plans you want to forecast, not every feature your business offers.

  • More than two plans in one model.
  • Upgrades or downgrades between plans.
  • Subscription pauses.
  • Reactivations or winbacks after cancellation.
  • Usage-based pricing.
  • Overlapping subscriptions.
  • More than one introductory pricing period.
  • Changes to the pricing schedule during the 12-month forecast, beyond the supported move from introductory to regular pricing.
Optional subscriber records Do you also have individual subscriber records?

These records let the workbook measure retention by subscriber age. They are optional: Basic Forecast works with monthly totals alone.

  • Subscriber ID
  • Signup Date
  • Cancellation Date
  • Plan

What your result means.

This check compares your answers with the Revenue Forecast Template's requirements. It does not inspect your data or estimate how accurate a forecast will be.

Your next step depends on what needs attention. Too little history calls for more monthly records. Inconsistent definitions or totals may benefit from Greenlight. A forecast outside the template's supported structure may need a separately scoped Custom Revenue Forecast.

Subscriber History is optional and does not change the readiness result. A READY result means the template appears suitable based on your answers—not that the forecast is guaranteed to be accurate.
